A broken suspension resulted in a 30 minute pit stop and then a broken shock with 45 minutes to go in the race moved Leh from fourth to fifth in the final season points standings. August 26 - Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA Leh had never driven at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California but he took to the track like a duck to water. David qualified the car in the 5th spot and held that position until the driver change. Leh was able to take over third place from Tommy Kendall in one of the GTOs with about thirty minutes to go and maintained the position and grabbed the second podium of the year for the Synergy Racing Team. July 30 The new Barber Motorsport Park in Birmingham, Alabama is arguably the most beautiful racing facility in the US. David had the best qualifying effort of the year and landed the car 4th on the starting grid. Unfortunately, it was discovered during tech inspection that the front lip of the car was 3/16th of an inch too low and we were DQed and moved to the back of the field. Things didn't get any better after that. The header broke on the race warm up lap which lead to numerous stops for repairs and eventually a DNF due to a melted wiring harness. A 16th place finish. Our duo maintains the 4th position in points but must finish well in the final two races of the season! June 29 It's back to Daytona for the traditional "hot" 4th of July race weekend. This time David started the car 5th on the grid and Leh took the checkered flag in 7th after an untimely late race pit stop for fuel. June 25 The Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course is also a track Leh really enjoys so a seventh place starting spot was somewhat of a disappointment - but Leh was able to gain some spots during the first half of the race and we ended up with a sixth place finish. Leh and David maintain their 4th place position in the Grand Am GT points chase. June 3 Watkins Glen is one of Leh's favorite tracks and he holds the PCA all time track record there. So the Six Hour At The Glen was a race Leh had been looking forward to - especially after winning there in 2005. What the team did not expect was Leh coming down with the flu. He only got 5 laps during practice and it looked like David would do most of the driving during the 6 hour race. Special thanks goes to Paul Booth, President of Glycomax, for working with Leh before the race. David started 5th and turned the car over to Leh who ended up driving two hours and fifty five minutes before turning back over to David. With Glycomax, Leh could have driven another 3 hours - the stuff really works! Our duo ran most of the last 3 hours in third place but both GTOs muscled past on the last lap of a six hour race to bump us back to a 5th place finish... May 29 A GT race on Memorial Day at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut is as much about history as it is racing. With no prototypes in the mix, Leh is able to show his stuff even though this was his first ever visit to the track. After starting sixth, he quickly moves up to third after dogging one of the GTOs on the start. We're never out of the top 5 and David brings the car home in fifth. May 14 Usually heat is a major factor at Phoenix and the 2006 race weekend there was no exception. David finishes the Qualifying Race in eighth place. However, this time Leh is able to improve on his starting position and turns the car over to David in sixth place. David easily maintains the position and we're able to break the string of eighth place finishes. Our duo continues to maintain their 4th place standing in the points battle. May 7 It's always great to visit Northern California and historic Laguna Seca Raceway. Once again Grand Am called for a qualifying race. This time David has a great battle with one of the BMWs and ends up eighth. Leh starts the race and David drives the final leg with another eighth place finish. April 23 This year's event at Virginia International Raceway included a qualifying race. The "Q" race was run under wet conditions and David had a very rare "off" in the rain and finished fifteenth. So Leh started the race fifteenth on Sunday but moved up to fifth at the thirty minute mark. An untimely caution flag just after our pit stop ultimately gave our duo an eighth place finish. March 26 Both David and Leh had excellent finishes last year at the Grand Prix of Miami. So the Synergy drivers entered this year's race with a lot of confidence. It was not discovered until after the race, but the racecar was "down on power" all weekend and this lead to Leh qualifying 10th and David finishing 6th. Nonetheless, our duo moved to 4th in the points standings. March 4 It's the new 997 GT3 Cup for Mexico City and the team again has high expectations after weeks of development on the new car. Leh qualifies the car 4th on the grid and moves up to third on the first lap of the race. Thanks to a great pit stop by the Synergy team, co-driver Murry is able to rejoin the fight in second place. David easily maintains his position and the team gets its first podium of the young 2006 season! January 29 Expectations are high as French driving sensation Xavier Pomeidou joins Keen, Murry and Craig Stanton for the 2006 Rolex 24 at Daytona. The team qualifies as the Championship winning #80 993 GT3 seventh on the GT grid. A series of small but nagging problems occur during the first six hours of the race and eventually a gearbox needs to be replaced. The team leaves Daytona with a very disappointing 22nd place finish. January 7 Leh makes his debut with Synergy Racing by joining David Murry and 2005 GT Champion Craig Stanton for Daytona Test Days. While many teams elect to run the sleek new 997 GT3 Cup, our trio is consistently in the top ten all weekend with their year-old Porsche 996 GT3 Cup. 2005 NewsNovember 30Leh Keen and Cory Friedman are recognized for their sixth place finish in the series at the 2005 Rolex Grand American Banquet in Orlando, Florida. Autometrics Motorsports in recognized for their third place finish in team points. Gordon Friedman, Leh and Cory accept the trophy on behalf of the team. November 5 Leh has a true international experience in Mexico City where over 100,000 fans turn out for the event. Leh qualifies his Porsche GT3 third on the grid just ahead of the Bunting/Lally Pontiac GTO. Leh and Cory finish the race in sixth place and their eleventh top ten of the season and enough to pass Tom Milner and Justin Marks to lock up sixth place in the points championship. October 9 Leh and Cory have another good weekend at Virginia International Raceway. Cory started the car from the 4th position and turned the car over to Leh about halfway through the 2¾ hour race. Leh was able to capture the team's fifth top five of the season with a 5th place finish. September 24 After winning the Watkins Glen Six Hour earlier in the year, the fall Glen race turned out to be a real disappointment. Leh turns the Porsche GT3 over to Cory in 4th place with about an hour to go in the race. Cory easily maintains the position but ends up with an eleventh place result thanks to broken wheel studs and resulting crash. |
